About Kailua

Kailua is situated in the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii. It is claimed that Kailua was home to Hawaiian families at least 1,500 years ago. Kailua is located near Kailua Bay, four miles down from the Nu'uanu Pali (the tallest mountain peak in the Ko'olau mountain range), and four miles north from Waimanolo. Even if it has a centralized commerce, Kailua is mainly a beach community.

Kailua is a tourist city because it is really blessed with nature, beauty and people. The main attractions include many natural wonders such as the Mokulua Islands, the Kawainui Marshland and Mount Olomana. Kailua is home for varied sacred ancient Hawaiian sites, many parks, playgrounds and protected beaches. Kailua Beach County Park was named "America's Best Beach" in 1998 and it is famous for its wide fine white sandy beach.

This beach is the best destination for world-class wind surfing. Lanikai Beach is the best place for swimming, walking, kayaking, windsurfing, boogie boarding, paddling, snorkeling and many other water sports. From vans and stalls on the beaches tourists can rent windsurfing equipment, as well as kayaks.

Near Kailua, on the windward side of O'ahu is located Kawai Nui Marsh (or Kawainui), the largest wetlands in the Hawaiian Islands with over 800 acres. In the surroundings tourists can find Ulupo Heiau State Monument, a Hawaiian religious site dedicated to human sacrifice. Its ruins incorporate the stonework and beliefs of the early Hawaiians. From this site can be enjoyed views of the Kawai Nui Swamp and Kailua Bay.
